Our Sisterhood

Sisterhood is the essence of all the wisdom of the ages, distilled into a single word

Alpha Delta Pi creates a home away from home for all of our members. The sisterhood we share allows us to make the most of our college experience while encouraging each other to become the best women we can be!

We have an amazing Alpha Education program that introduces our sisters to the values and qualities of an Alpha Delta Pi woman. We do not have "pledges" - our new members are called "Alphas" to emphasize equality at all levels of membership. Additionally, we have "Diamond Sisters" rather than "Bigs/Littles" to further emphasize equality. Diamond Sisters are mentors for one another, and provide a strong sense of home for our members, and often times Diamond Sisters are the most cherished relationships throughout the chapter.

Social Events

It is important that our sisters have a lot of fun throughout the semester! Our social calender includes Black Diamond Ball formal, date nights, mixers with fraternities and other campus organizations, and more! Another event to look forward to is the full-chapter Sisterhood Retreat, which allows sisters to disconnect from their daily stresses and enjoy spending time bonding with each other.

A letter from our 2015 Sisterhood Chair

Emily Vidal

Dear Potential New Members,

As Sisterhood Chair I would like to personally welcome you to the Theta Tau Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi! Our members are deeply committed to sisterhood. The official motto of Alpha Delta Pi is “We live for each other,” and the sisters of our chapter use these words of loyalty and dedication to each other to guide us in all that we do.

Coming home to Alpha Delta Pi means having a second home at Penn. It means immediately gaining 120+ sisters who will value your friendship for life. It means always having friends available to eat dinner, go shopping, or watch a movie. Our members enjoy a wide variety of Sisterhood activities every week, ranging from dinners, movie nights, ice-skating, study breaks, crafting, karaoke nights, picnics, and more. In addition, becoming a member provides access to a network of more than 220,000 Alpha Delta Pi sisters across the nation.

We use each word of our name to distinguish between the different stages of membership in Alpha Delta Pi. Instead of being called pledges, our new members are called “Alphas.” Our Alpha Education program teaches our new members about the values of Alpha Delta Pi women. Initiated members are called “Deltas,” and they mentor and support our Alphas through the Big Diamond Sister Program. The bond between a Little Diamond and her Bid Diamond sister is unlike any other and contributes tremendously to our overall sense of sisterhood. Graduated sisters are referred to as “Pi’s” because the value of Pi is infinite, and our membership in Alpha Delta Pi will never end even after our time at Penn is over.

I came home to Alpha Delta Pi because I wanted to develop meaningful relationships with some of the most incredible women on campus. These women have not only become a support system for me but have become some of my closest friends. They have truly shown me the meaning of the words “We live for each other.” I strongly believe that the women of Alpha Delta Pi are truly the embodiment of these words, and I cannot wait to welcome you to our sisterhood.

Loyally,

Emily Vidal, Sisterhood Chair
