Serving Our Community

Since 1979, Alpha Delta Pi has been committed to serving Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). Over the course of our partnership, Alpha Delta Pi has contributed more than $5.4 million to this worthwhile cause. RMHC supports Ronald McDonald Houses, Care Mobiles, and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in local communities and also funds grants to other nonprofit organizations whose programs focus on children in need.

How we support Ronald McDonald House and our community!

Today, more than 300 Ronald McDonald Houses in 52 countries help keep families with seriously ill or injured children together when they need it most by offering them a comfortable, temporary residence in proximity to a medical facility. In addition to donating money to this worthwhile cause, many Alpha Delta Pi collegiate chapters and alumnae associations spend their time and energy volunteering at these houses. Last year our members contributed more than 30,000 service hours to the Ronald McDonald Houses and more than 23,000 hours to other service opportunities.

Theta Tau Chapter is very actively involved with our Ronald McDonald House here in Philadelphia! We have been Breakfast Buddies and cooked breakfast for the kids, done arts and crafts with them, and hosted fundraisers for RMHC on campus such as our Lion's Share Challenge, Pie-a-President, and Sweets, Treats, and Beats during Spring 2014.

Relay For Life

We raised over $3,900 in Spring 2014 to help fight cancer!

We collaborated with GRACEDbyGRIT to hold a standalone event to raise money for RMH in Fall 2015! GRACEDbyGRIT is a women's athletic apparel company founded and employed by women.

A letter from our 2015 Philanthropy Chair

Kelly Kennedy

For starters, I would like to thank you for taking a moment to look at the Philanthropy page for the Theta Tau chapter of Alpha Delta Pi. As the Philanthropy chair, and as a sister, I am always excited to talk about our sorority’s mission to service and our work with Ronald McDonald House Charities. Our chapter is especially lucky because we are located only a few short blocks from our nearest--and not to mention, the first--Ronald McDonald House at 3925 Chestnut Street. Since our chapter's conception in 2014, we have been cultivating a strong relationship with them, bringing arts and crafts activities for residents, cooking breakfast and stocking the fridge for families, and collecting pop tabs to contribute to RMHC’s national collection project. Our chapter also continues to work alongside the Alpha Delta Pi foundation in support of their various efforts.

In the fall of 2014, we held our first campus-wide philanthropy event, Pie-A-Prez. Members from various groups across campus were invited to nominate their club and team presidents to be pie’d in the face, with proceeds benefitting the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Beyond being able to pie people in the face (which is a great stress reliever, by the way) we also had food, raffles, and great music. The event was a huge success and we are excited to make it even bigger this upcoming fall and in the future.

Last spring, we held our second philanthropy event, Hoops for the House. In this event, teams were pitted against each other in a March Madness-style basketball tournament and competed in a bracket to win the title as champion. Similar to our fall event, all proceeds from the team entry fee and raffle submissions went to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Moving forward, we aim to continue to host campus-wide events every semester that will engage our current sisters, alumni, the Penn community, and the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House community. This tradition is one that we hope will perpetuate in Theta Tau for years to come.

Beyond working with Ronald McDonald House Charities, Theta Tau has also been able take part in numerous other campus efforts, including a bake sale with the brothers of AXP to raise money for PAWS, and Relay for Life. As a new sorority in 2014, we were able to raise the most money as a team! Events such as these are especially fun because they allow us to get to know other groups on campus a bit better, while also giving sisters the chance to explore other modes of service that they enjoy. In the future, we will continue to expand these efforts while continuing to support the varied existing community service activities that our sisters care about most.
